2.1 lesson 9:
producing algorithms

In this LESSON you will learn about:

Learning Objectives:

In this lesson you will learn how to create an algorithmic diagram using the four main diagram symbols
  1. Know what the four main symbols are.
  2. Apply these symbols to create algorithms
  3. Know how to identify a 'L3' detailed algorithm

Lesson Overview

Resources

Starter:
Complete the starter worksheet and answer the questions.  Share your answers with another student discuss.  Mark and correct the answers

Main:
  1. Watch the teacher presentation about the symbols, recap there use and discuss examples.
  2. Go back to the starter task and correct any errors.  Also label the symbols on the diagram, process, input, output etc.
  3. Your teacher will give you a straw.  On slide three you will see some scenarios displayed, use the straw to create the correct symbol to use.
  4. Complete Worksheet 2, mark, correct.
  5. Set the HW sheets and students can begin them if there is time in the lesson

Plenary:
  • Students each think of a scenario similar to part 3 and ask the class to make the appropriate symbol from the plastic straw.
  • Play a suitable Kahoot
