1.2.2 SECONDARY storage

Topic Intentions

Learning Objectives:

  1. Know the need for secondary storage
  2. Common types of storage: optical, magnetic and solid state
  3. The suitable storage devices and storage media for a given application
  4. Advantages and disadvantages of storage device characteristics, capacity, speed, portability, durability, cost and reliability.
  1. Discuss the need for secondary storage including optical, magnetic and solid state.
  2. Recognise a range of different storage devices.
  3. Evaluate suitable storage devices and storage media for a given application.
  4. Compare advantages and disadvantages of each storage device
  5. Apply understanding in the context of a scenario

Lesson 1: Secondary Storage

Learning Intention: Understand why secondary storage is required and the three main types of storage.

Implementation:
This lesson is about secondary storage, its purpose, the various types and how they work.  You will need to take notes and answer the participate in the class discussions.  Follow the teacher's lesson notes.  Complete the worksheets and save into your folder.
Impact:
Write down in you book, five new facts that you have learnt in today's lesson.  Check them with another student.

Lesson 2: Characteristics of Secondary Storage Devices

Learning Intention: To know the various characteristics of a device are, including reference to,  capacity, speed, portability, durability, cost and reliability.

Implementation:
This lesson is looks at the main characteristics of secondary storage enabling you to discuss tyhe suitability of each device for a give
Impact:
Complete the MCQs assessment

Lesson 3: Advantages and Disadvantages and Suitability

Learning Intention: To know the various characteristics of a device are, including reference to,  capacity, speed, portability, durability, cost and reliability.

Implementation:
