2.6 lesson 7:
Use of records to store data

In this LESSON you will learn about:

Learning Objectives:

  • What a Database is
  • How Python Code is used to create and write data into a record / Database
  1. Know and define what a Database is
  2. Use Python code to create, and write data to records

Lesson Overview

Resources

Starter:
  1. Ask the students to line up in height order, discuss how long this takes and whether this is a database.
  2. Students could also line up by DOB, shoe size, results etc.
  3. Introduce the concept that a Database is a organised structure of stored data.

Main:
Ask student to think of other examples of Database, share with the class.
Introduce the concept of records and explain what they are.
The main section of the lesson follows the class notes file, introduce how to create a record using Python.  Students practice and create their own records and add data.

Plenary:
  • Recap what a Database is
  • Recap the concept of records
  • Ask students to explain how to create records with Python code
